Consciously no one would ever admit that their church plant is about themselves, but the subconscious, alpha-male, sinful mind will kill you by leading you to think everything is about YOU. This will destroy you, your family, and your church in due time. (A great read would be: And the Shofar Blew by Francine Rivers) Driven leaders will always fight the fact that they want to be known for what they do, but this is NOT the calling on your life if you understand the gospel.
The gospel:
1. In Jesus Christ, God emptied himself into human form
2. Then in Jesus Christ, God atoned for our sins at the cross (substitutionary atonement)
3. God will come back to this world and restore.
What you will find is that YOU are not at the center of any of those three points. We have to grasp that we were dead, evil, and destructive without the amazing undeniable grace given by Jesus through the cross and the empty tomb. Yes, you are filled with the power that raised Christ from the dead, but you must understand it is His power — His ability — His gift freely given to us as a tool to bring Him glory. If you take what is freely given and bring yourself popularity or ROCK STAR status, you will display that you do not understand the gospel.
